8-bit sex right here from Ethan64. A smooth track which combines an upbeat style similar to that of Justin Faust, with sexy videogame vibes akin to Danger or Kavinsky. The remix by The Phoenix Bros is just as banging and a completely fresh take on the original.
Bottom line, This track should be on your New years eve playlists!
Earlier Today We had the pleasure of chatting with a great new up and coming producer Marek
Wittner( Of Paradise 1976 fame).he talked to us about his work with Paradise
1976 and his solo project Excelsior .
So, Marek, how did you get into music production?
Hmm where to start... Well when I was around 5 years old, I learnt various
instruments until I was 9 when my mentor moved to a different city. Also during
this time, I listened to Daft Punk and fell in love with their music. Their music
inspired me to want to be a producer but I did not pursue it at that time. When
I got a bit older, I fell in and out of love for the first time… And that's when
I picked up Ableton Live 7 and started to produce music!
You mentioned listening to Daftpunk,
what other producers/musicians did you listen to when you were younger? And
which producers do you look up to now? Well I might mention Daft punk again ... But I really adored Boards of
Canada and I still listen to them. Their trippy blend of nostalgia was so good.
Also I loved U-Ziq allot when I was younger .From the pop/electronic genre, I
enjoy Planet Funk a lot.
Others I enjoyed: High Contrast, London Elektricity , Incognito and many more! I
think the current scene is a bit too mainstream. There are some exceptions
though such as Dam-Funk and Gramatik.
I agree that electronic music as a whole
has gotten very mainstream. What current producers would you like to work with?
And which producers have you worked with?
I , along with Judgment Dernier and Toma Swag,
make up the French House trio Paradise
1976.Others with whom I have worked with include: GMGN , DJ Las K , Ongoy , Awonk
and many more! I would like to work with so many artists I don’t even know
where to begin! For the distant future i would say a collab with LBCK, La
Zebra, or Gramatik would be very interesting!
What
was the first album you bought?
The first album I bought was Homework by Daft Punk if I remember
right...Also in that same period of time I bought some MJ music and one of Thomas
Banglater's LP's! Such good music was around in that time!
What do you enjoy outside of music?
Outside music I Play a lot of squash and tennis.I love long
distance running and working out. When I'm home I love to play various
instruments but honestly , nothing makes me happier than music. Apart from this ,A good bottle of whiskey and some chill time is something I love.
What new releases
do you have planned for the future?
Future releases will most likely be coming out on Mozzarela
Records. I might name a few so here they are : ill be appearing on GMGN's EP on
the track ,”Downtown Love" which is
interesting blend of Boards of Canada-esque music and French Touch(coming out
on Mozzarela very soon). Then shortly afterwards Paradise 1976 will release it’s
LP which will have 14 tracks which include both originals and remixes. Expect
some really unique stuff very soon! And for my solo project Excelsior there's
this track “Something About Ellen” which will be coming out within the next few weeks along with an EP. After this, LBCK - START REMIX will hit the internet .
Once in a while you hear some music that is simply Amazing. The Gordon Setter's Ep is some of that music. With The Teenagers-esque lyrics and solid electro production The Gordon Setter will be one to watch in 2012.Bright Night is One of the best EPs of 2011.
For those who don't know , D9 is a great new producer from The USA. His style can be likened to a blend of 2080 and Kavinsky.Yesterday , I sat down with D9 and we discussed his career , his future plans and his inspirations.
So i'll start
off with the biggest question ,Who
is the person behind D9?
Dan Wilson.
I am a kid that lives here in Provo Utah. I started playing around with
keyboards when I was a kid because my dad had them in his home office. He was
really nice to let me play on them whenever I wanted pretty much. He also let
me play with his sequencer program on his computer a little bit. It was way
back in the day, it was a software called Cakewalk. I started getting into
playing music a lot more when i was in high School. My friends were in this
pretty cool band and they didn't really have a place for me so they put me on
keyboards. I loved it! My mom also bought me a playstation game for my birthday
one year (after i begged for it) called MTV music maker. It was just a bunch of
house/trance loops you could throw together. I really liked it. I was obsessed
haha! I wanted to be a DJ to start with, so my mom took me up to Salt Lake City
and i went to Kaskades record shop "Mechanized." I got lots of drum
and bass records and starting spinning them at small local parties. I watched a
lot of skate videos when i was a kid. I loved skating. There was this one video
where the skater was talking about the kind of music he was going to be using
then it showed some drum and bass. I loved it, that's why I got all those drum
and bass records. When I got a bit older i saved up for my first synth, My
Micro Korg. It was sweet. I really wanted a sequencer or a sampler but it took
me alot longer to save up for one of those when i was a kid. About the time i
was 18 i got my first sequencer, a korg electribe. I sat down in my parents
basement and recorded my first album Lost Traveler on that. Rumor has it that
im part robot, and im not sure if that's true or not. I feel a bit machine like
though, I have troubles with intimate emotions alot. I'm pretty introverted,
but i love hanging out with friends at times and being kind to people. I love
photography and video. I do alot of that for my band myself. I also design alot
of my own logos etc. Im into that kind of PlayStation one
for the win , they don't make games like they did back then. :(
I know! I still play my PSone! so many fun games. My favorite game is
still Final Fantasy 7. What an awesome game.
-Your music definatley has the video game touch to it, What games would you say
influenced you in your music? And what producers in this sub genre do you like/are inspired by?
There are a ton of games that have infulenced me, but some big ones i would
have to say are Outrun 2019 for Sega Genesis, Sonic 2 for Sega Genesis, and
Aladdin for Sega Genesis. I can remember being a kid and wishing my job was to
make the music for those games. I don't know why i've always loved that synth sound
so much, but I just love it. Surprisingly though, i also love the cinematic
music from Final Fantasy 7 and 8. The composer Nebuo Uemastu is one of my
favorite musicians of all time. I also love the music from Chrono Cross. Donkey
Kong Country also had some sweet music, particularly the song when you are in
the mine.
I don't know if you can put Kavinsky into the video game sub genre, but I think
you can definatly put him into that neo 80s genre. Id love to work with him
someday. Wishes and Dreams haha. I also really like what future cop is doing,
and the whole vallerie movement. College is a great producer.
-Who is your favorite producer? And who would you love to work with?
Favorite producer... ooo thats hard to nail down to just one person. I love Guy
Manuel and Thomas Bangalter from Daft Punk. They had a huge infuluence on
me for sure. As i said Kavinsky is awesome. I really like Alan Braxe and
Fred Falke. They have that awesome Neo-Disco feel. Ray Lynch is a great
producer of New Age. I would have to say those guys are some of my favorites.
- What is the first album you bought?
Michael Jackson Bad on
cassett tape. My mom bought it for me in a gas station! Go mom!
So are you releasing
or planning to release anything soon ?
Yeah I am releasing an
EP this upcoming month. it has some great old 80s style synth sounds and
some new kinda grimy sounding heavy electro!
Where can we buy / listen to your music ? D9Robot.com !! Also come to the Facebook page and hang out, I chat with people on there alot. My Youtube Page has alot of my older stuff on there. My EP will also be in Itunes when it comes out.... but I might have a month or 2 where it is free on D9Robot.com so look out for that.
the song I attached is one of the singles off my new EP. It's called SLC International.
Recently , I was linked a 5tarcrush remix and I loved it.So wasting no time, I listened to his other work and I was blown away! The way he uses synth can be described as Kavinsky meets Chromeo but with a distinct flair.
When I first heard SaiR's remix of Silenx' track Far Away , I knew it wasn't the last time I'd be hearing some awesome stuff from him.I wasn't wrong ; his latest track , Sunfield is an absolutely perfect mix and its extremely well produced.
A great young producer ,GFT, who you may remember for his "sfk anthem" which I blogged a few months back , released his latest track ,Signs , recently and I must say it is some brilliant super hard electro!
Great new EP out from Strasbourg based producer R3SET.
The 3 track EP is a wonderful display of smooth 80's synth , mixed along with a trademark French Touch
I only have one word for it...Epic!
if Miami Horror and The Valerie collective made love in the back seat of a Deloreon ,
Johnny Neon would be the result. With smooth vocals and that awesome 80's touch , Johnny Neon
is a name I wont be forgetting soon!
Animoooo , a producer from Lyon, has ,I must say, a very unique way of producing.
I don't know whether to call it New Wave, Ambient, Electro,Just Plain Awesome or all 4 and more.
here are two remixes they have done .If you like it, make sure to show some love on FACEBOOK
Fresh out of Paris comes a super remix of Metronomy's The Bay ,by the producer,Romero .
Before his current project , he was a member of Lyre Le Temps. And to top that all off, allot of his music and persona has the zombie motif .(my favorite film genre)
be sure follow his Soundcloud page !
extremely sexy stuff from American Le Milke. With A heavy European feel , his latest track,Under The Dance Floor, has all the makings of epic Nu Disco .Be Sure to Check out his other stuff too!
